The Ordinance creates the Sarawak Craft Council as the central authority for regulating and developing the state’s craft industry. The Council is composed of a Chairman, a Deputy Chairman, and five to nine members appointed for their knowledge and experience in craft development. Its primary functions are to promote traditional cultural expression, stimulate growth of the craft industry, and assist craftsmen in adopting modern production, marketing, and digital technologies. To achieve these goals, the Council is empowered to provide training facilities, conduct research, and establish centers for the development and sale of craft products. It also has the authority to certify the authenticity of Sarawak Craft to enhance its marketability. The Ordinance establishes the Sarawak Craft Council Fund to manage all revenue, gifts, and grants, which are used to cover operational expenses, provide incentives to craftsmen, and invest in relevant financial institutions. All members and officers are deemed public servants and are bound by obligations of secrecy regarding information obtained during their duties.
