5-6 July 2024 - Le Meridien Hotel, Kota Kinabalu


CLJ Malaysia (formerly known as the Malaysian Current Law Journal Sdn Bhd) organised a civil procedure and advocacy programme titled ‘Elevating Your Civil Litigation Benchmark’ at Le Meridien Hotel in Kota Kinabalu which was attended by many esteemed members of Malaysia’s legal fraternity. This seminar featured expert insights, engaging discussions and motivational advice on effective advocacy, with personal courtroom experiences from both judges and lawyers.


Speakers across the two-day seminar comprised Ravi Nekoo (Partner, Messrs Nekoo), Dato’ Mary Lim Thiam Suan (Former Federal Court Judge), Tan Sri David Wong Dak Wah (Former Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak), Tengku Datuk Fuad Tengku Ahmad (Founder, FT Ahmad & Co), Roger Chin (Partner, Chin Lau Wong & Foo), Gregory Das (Partner, Messrs Cyrus Das), Darshendev Singh (Partner, Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill) and Tan Kee Heng (Managing Partner, S.K. Ling & Tan Advocates).


At the start of the first day, ‘Malaysian Civil Procedure and Practice (2nd Edition)’, a CLJ publication authored by Mr Ravi Nekoo was officially launched by the Director of CLJ Malaysia Ms Rostina Gaus, and Mr Ravi Nekoo himself, with the distinguished presence of Court of Appeal Judge YA Datuk Ismail Bin Brahim. This book seeks to provide legal practitioners, students and legal enthusiasts with invaluable insights and a comprehensive explanation of civil court procedures. 


On this same day, our Managing Partner Mr Tan Kee Heng spoke alongside Tan Sri David Wong Dak Wah on ‘Appellate Advocacy: Presenting Appeals Par Excellence’. This talk, which was succinct, yet all-encompassing, provided insights and practical advice on the preparation and process of appeals, the art of written and oral appellate advocacy, and the distinction between trial and appellate advocacy. 


Following a wealth of other enriching sessions, the seminar concluded with an enlightening forum moderated by Mr Ravi Nekoo, empanelled by Datuk Roger Chin, Dato’ Mary Lim Thiam Suan and Tan Sri David Wong Dak Wah who shared their authentic experiences and anecdotes of courtroom advocacy.
