Yayasan Tan Sri Profesor Ahmad Ibrahim (YTSPAI) hosted the Opening Ceremony of Malaysian Law Students Legal Aid Convention 2024 (MALLAC 2024) at the Asian International Arbitration Centre in Kuala Lumpur in a bid to create a space which drives students and the public to engage actively in the intellectual and critical discourse of legal aid issues in our country.
The Chief Justice of Malaysia, the Rt. Hon. Tun Tengku Maimun binti Tuan Mat delivered the Keynote Speech whereas Deputy Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof delivered the Officiating Speech.
In the plenary sessions, legal experts explored key issues such as structural lessons from within and beyond, balancing charity and sustainability, legal aid and artificial intelligence, and legal aid in the educational system.
YTSPAI is a foundation established under the Trustee (Incorporation) Act 1952 on October 12, 2023, in honor of the late Tan Sri Professor Ahmad Ibrahim who was a prominent figure in Malaysia's legal history often recognised for his contributions in shaping the country’s legal system after independence.
YTSPAI’s primary mission is to champion equal access to justice and the development of legal literacy by providing legal aid particularly to marginalised Malaysians, running informational and educational-based programs, organising community-centric programs that foster racial unity and advance the interest of the marginalised community, and establishing a platform which gives students from all walks of life the access to quality legal education.
